Section 2
Sustainable Living

1. Calculate your Carbon Footprint by doing this quiz: the WWF quiz.* Do this quiz together in your team, helping each other out with the vocabulary!

Look up the words and add them to your notebook!

2. When you're done, discuss the results.
Were you surprised or not?

Extra: How can you reduce your carbon footprint?

* Adapt the questions to Finland:

FOOD Q4: … imported to Finland

TRAVEL Q6: Domestic = Finland
HOME Q7: ‘on a green tariff’ = your electricity comes from renewable energy (uusiutuva energia)

HOME Q8: double glazing = triple/quadruple glazing

3. Finally, write a summary of your team's discussion in the Padlet in section 2 (1 box per team.)

For starters:

1. make sure you're in the book (Join key: SPK39ECU)

2. check the response your team wrote about your carbon footprints in the Padlet (Welcome section, bottom left)

MISSING:
Nooa, Milja, Konsta (who were all absent last week - check this out and add your own!)

ex. 1

Section 2.1

Huom! Tällainen suullinen harjoitus valmentaa sinua myös yo-kokeeseen sekä sanastollisesti että antamalla ideoita aiheesta. Keräät huomaamatta sekä omia että muiden ajatuksia. Jos joudut kirjoittamaan aineen aiheesta, voit ammentaa tästä!

Section 2.1

Sustainability can be perceived as a state of living that can continue over a long period.
A more complete definition of sustainability takes into account environmental, economic, cultural, and social aspects which are referred to as

the four pillars of sustainability:
environmental, economic, cultural,
and social sustainability.

INSTRUCTIONS ex. 3:
- Translate the explanations orally.

- Go through the terms in the grid and translate the ones you do not understand. These translations are what you will submit as your answer to this exercise!

Do ex. 3 according to these instructions, not the ones in the book!

Listen to the text, read it, use this translation if you need help.
Do ex. 4 to check your reading comprehension.

Then do exercises 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12

Use the vocabulary under the text or under the Quizlet (ex. 2)

Section 2.1
